Mrs. Cummings’ February in Review

Been a busy month….not a lot of time or energy for blogging unfortunately. I think everyone gets a little surge of energy for January and resolutions and such but for me it always runs out about February 🙂 Anyways, here’s what I’ve been up to (my “excuses” for not posting)….more crafting and cocktails in the near future!

Trip to INDIANA

Went to visit my bestie in Indiana! We got snowed in, drank a lot of wine, and did some “crafting”. After nagging me for nearly 2 years, I decided to make the trip, it was worth it.

Queen Kasey

I tried to teach her to cook but I just ended up cooking for her and her man every night while they concentrated on homework (I’m pretty sure Kasey was on gchat the whole time but I let it slide…). They are both working on their PhDs in civil engineering…ridiculously smart couple and I had a fun week of distracting them away from their work!

I made her these chalkboard wine glasses….but after a wild night of wine and House we broke one after missing a “high five”. Hahaha like I said, we drank a lot of wine 🙂

Geriatric Birthday Cake

Last weekend was my brother-in-law Chris’ birthday! We went out to celebrate, and I brought the gift of an embarrassing cake 🙂 I love to play with cake decor, even though I am much too impatient to bake. After acquiring some items from the pharmacy, I made a geriatric themed cake…..with all the essential medications for an old man.

It’s a prescription pad with a viagra, preparation H, and mira-lax. I thought it was cute and luckily it was well received. The cake is wrapped in fondant with a copper and brown plaid background. The best part….it was a GUINESS-BACON-CHOCOLATE cake! It sounds crazy but it tasted amazing. Happy Birthday, Chris!

Romantic Getaway

After 7 years together and a few months of marriage, Michael and I had faded out of the honeymoon phase. Marriage is a lot more work than I was expecting, but after a few long talks and a Romantic Valentine’s getaway, I think we are back in the game 🙂

Semiahmoo Resort-Golf-Spa Bellingham, WA

We went to this amazing seaside resort for the weekend! If you are in a rut in your love life…getaway. Even if it’s just some dumpy bed and breakfast in the next town, I think it’s so important to get away from life and focus on each other. We had a great valentine’s day dinner and a hot stone couples massage. I loved it and I love him, Happy Valentine’s Day baby 🙂

Mr. & Mrs.

Mrs. Cummings Rx’s Happy Hour

Been cocktailing and cooking as usual! I added an essential bar tool to my kitchen: the cocktail rimmer!

I cannot believe I have gone this long without one. It has a lime juice sponge, a salt try, and sugar tray…..all the essentials for a beautiful cocktail rim. LOVE IT! Cannot tell you how many plates of sugar and salt I have wasted, no mo!

Hosted my own happy hour with cocktails and appetizers since I didn’t want to go out…the guests said the compromise was worth it 🙂 Made lavender lemon drops and bacon/mushroom/ricotta melts, roasted garlic/tomato brushetta, and baked pita chips with hummus.Yum!

Mrs. Cummings Rx Happy Hour is open nightly 5pm…..call ahead for reservations and plan to take a cab home 🙂

RECAP

I’m alive and WELL…..don’t worry everybody, I’ll try to keep up on this blogging adventure on a more regular basis. Thanks for reading!

  1. Glad you are well and happy! Yes, sounds like you are busy being happy and having a good time……that’s what counts! We hit 27 years marriage this April and a getaway is in the works…….to Florida! No kids, no dogs …… just me and him (gosh, I hope I can find something to talk about LOL kidding, I hope)

ooh — I’m jealous of your cocktail rimmer! I have a whole little shelf of tupperwares with different sugar/salt mixes!

    Wow! You’ve been busy!
I have big envy of your valentines getaway – it looks beautiful 🙂 And I think that’s really good advice, it’s too easy to get stuck in a routine with each other so it’s good to take time to make it fun again!

  4. Happy Hour…that sounds bloody amazing! 🙂

Showed the geri cake picture to everyone at BJP… such a great cake!!!

You are a busy gal! Glad you were able to get away with the hubs. We are headed into year 15. Unfortunately the kids make it a bit rough to get away much but we do what we can.
I won’t lie… I can’t decide whether a Guiness, bacon and chocolate cake sounds good or not. I had stout ice cream once but wasn’t a huge fan but ANYTHING mixed with chocolate should be good…

    • it was amazing! but if you wanted to step 1 toe in I would go for guiness and chocolate first 🙂 oh yes trying to wait on those babies….chaos will ensue once they arrive I’m sure 🙂

Jear Bear you should make something with chocolate whipped cream vodka…just discovered it and its supper cheap so I need some cocktail ideas!!! 😉 I’ve been using orange juice so it tastes like those chocolate oranges Grandma Carol use to give us but I was thinking you might be able to get more creative. Just a thought!! Love you!!! XOXOXO!!!
